Deerfield-News.com-Deerfield Beach,Fl- As we continue our coverage of two Deerfield Beach Wawa’s under construction. We are curious to know why Wawa was able to get a “Curb Cut” where Walgreens did not.The curb cut on Hillsboro Bouleard just before I-95 certainly appears to be what is going to make a difference betwen success and failure.Anyone who had shopped at the Walgreen knows ingress and egress was like that of a cornfield maze.
As you can see from site plan a curb cut has been allowed and is now in fact there. As a Jersey native transplanted to Deerfield in 1980,I too miss my Wawa the sooner they open for me the better.
As a news blogger and businessman I am just curious as how did Wawa get what was so obviously needed and Walgreens did no a “Curb Cut”?
Somewhere at Walgreens headquarters you would think they are asking the same question. We have reached out to them and as of posting not received a reply. The same for Wawa no response.Deerfield-News.com has also made a FOIA request to The City of Deerfield Beach seeing the public records about this .

From their website www.wawa.com they have the following about their Florida expansion and hiring.

About Wawa, Inc.
Wawa, Inc., a privately held company, began in 1803 as an iron foundry in New Jersey. Toward the end of the 19th
Century, owner George Wood took an interest in dairy farming and the family began a small processing plant in
Wawa, PA in 1902. The milk business was a huge success, due to its quality, cleanliness and “certified” process. As
home delivery of milk declined in the early 1960’s, Grahame Wood, George’s grandson, opened the first Wawa Food
Market in 1964 as an outlet for dairy products. Today, Wawa is your all day, every day stop for fresh, built-to-order
foods, beverages, coffee, fuel services, and surcharge-free ATMs. In July of 2015, Wawa was named “America’s
Most Beloved Convenience Store” by a Market Force study of 7,000 consumers, winning with the highest “composite
loyalty score” of 68 percent, and taking first place in the fresh food category and in 2016 Wawa was recognized in
Forbes as one of America’s Best Large Employers, a survey-based ranking of employers offering the best associate
experiences and strongest opportunities. Wawa was recently designated as a 2017 Best Place to Work for LGBT
Equality by the Human Rights Campaign Foundation. A chain of more than 730 convenience retail stores (over 500
offering gasoline), Wawa stores are located in Pennsylvania, New Jersey, Delaware, Maryland, Virginia and Florida.
The stores offer a large fresh food service selection, including Wawa brands such as built-to-order hoagies, freshlybrewed
coffee, hot breakfast sandwiches, built-to-order Specialty Beverages, and an assortment of soups, sides and
snacks.
