Subject: Deerfield Beach Window tinting Traffic stops

Media Relations,
Please inform us of what exactly is the tinting Statute or law being applied in these traffic stops the Broward/Palm beach New Times is reporting on today?
Does the Sheriff have a direct comment of what as the New Times is reporting and is apparent to Broward Circuit Court Judge Levey Cohen and would bring into question what Deerfield Beach Deputies and Detectives are doing regarding stopping vehicles in certain areas only regarding the “Window Tinting”? As well as the Judges inference the Detectives testimony was all over the place and probably not truthful?

Good afternoon,

The specific statute is: 316.2952 (2). Windshields, requirements; restrictions.

Below is the response provided to the New Times from Sheriff Israel:

“Racial profiling is illegal and the Broward Sheriff’s Office does not condone it. Period. I take issue with inferences made by Mr. Finkelstein and would question the data being used to support his claims.”

As to the Judge’s comments on the credibility of a specific witness, it would be pure speculation as to why she made such comments.
