MAYOR ROBB STIRS UP CONTROVERSY BY BOYCOTTING CITY PLANNED BLACK EVENT

The Mayor was there last year and a white woman was also honored.Many city residents are  questioning the Mayors logic.

Annual Black Heritage, Women’s History Month Banquet

The City of Deerfield Beach Parks and Recreation Department would like to invite you to join us for the City of Deerfield Beach’s Annual Black Heritage and Women’s History Banquet which will be held at Westside Park’s Dr. Leo J. Robb, Jr. Memorial Gymnasium, 435 SW 2nd St., on Saturday, March 7th starting at 7:00pm (doors open at 6 p.m.).

This year we are proud to announce our special guest & keynote speaker is WSVN-7 News Anchor, Danielle Knox. The esteemed journalist has anchored and reported for TV stations across the country, including right here in South Florida. Danielle co-anchored the morning newscast for the CBS affiliate in Miami and its sister station, UPN 33 Morning News as well as anchored the weekday evening UPN 33 News at 10. She also anchored and reported for Miami’s NBC affiliate. But she is currently part of the number one rated morning newscast in south Florida, WSVN-7.

Danielle has covered countless memorable events including the September 11th attacks, the murder of fashion designer Gianni Versace, the crash of Valujet Flight 592, the abduction and murder of Jimmy Ryce, and more hurricanes than she’d care to remember. Danielle also spent some time as anchor and reporter for the CBS affiliate in Atlanta, GA and gained national attention as the co-host of The Balancing Act on Lifetime Television. Danielle has an inspiring story of hard work and success that she will share with our community, so we encourage your attendance.

As part of the program we will also be recognizing and “Saluting Hometown Heroes” in the following categories: Business Professional – Carrol Stubbs, Community Service – Avis Swenson, Educator – Roy Clark, Athletic Role Model – Lou Ellen Stallings, Women’s History – Velemina Williams and Clergy – Bishop Patrick Kelly.

Come out for a delicious soul food buffet and live entertainment by Deerfield Beach High School’s Jazz Band as we honor these most deserving individuals…you’ll be sure to enjoy yourself! Tickets may be purchased at the Johnny Tigner, Sr. Community Center at Westside Park for $30.00. It is recommended that guests wear African attire; however, it is not required.

The event which Mayor Robb is now boycotting is being held in “The Leo J Robb Memorial Gymnasium” named after her late husband and long time  prominent Deerfield Beach doctor.Mayor Robb was Mayor of Deerfield from 1980 to 1993 and was reelected last election and has returned to her old job as Deerfield Beach Mayor. Mayor Robb is a longtime Deerfield resident often outspoken and controversial,but popular with the voters.

The honoree the Mayor objecting to being recognized is Avis Swenson.
